is something I have strived for since the very beginning
of this journey in publishing. As a fan and consumer of media myself, there's one thing I can't stand, and that is the completely fake and strange ways other entrepreneurs act on socials to gain attention. The algorithms of online marketing drive me insane, and looking around at the content that gains attention is discouraging. The weirdest trend I've seen is this one where creators sit in their cars and they either scream, cry, or just rant about stuff, and people love it! There's all these things they tell you to do nowadays: Post a video of yourself doing this, film a video of yourself doing that, act like this, tell a joke, share a story, do a little dance, sing, literally anything else but just show your product, in hopes that someone out there will see you. The weird part is that they tell you this is somehow supposed to project the image to your customers that you are a real person and make them pay attention. I remember a time when the product sold itself. The ad simply showed the product, what it offers and what it could do for the customer, and you either wanted it, or you didn't. I.e. a movie trailer made you want to see the movie or not. A toy commercial made you want the toy, if it was geared towards you or not. The Sears Wish Book was the best thing ever at Christmas time, because it was simple. You circled the toys you wanted for your parents to see, and that was it. There wasn't someone acting weird on your screen to get your attention. I believe in being real, and I hold on to the fact that there is a way to do this without becoming a weird social media personality. I really try to just be real, without all the gimmicks and, in that spirit, I have a few other ventures you can check out.
